We were contacted by the technical department of the Sint-Margaretha residential care center in Holsbeek. In the new wing, where seniors stayed in service flats, there was a huge reverberation in the corridors. As a result, the peace and quiet for the residents was non-existent. Even chatting with the neighbors or going to the common recreation rooms was described by the residents as highly unpleasant.
We went on site and were able to determine a reverberation time of 2.3 seconds in the first floor hallway, which is a lot. On the 1st floor it was not much better, here we could measure 2.1 seconds of reverberation time. We worked out 2 proposals: one with both COUSTceilings (ceiling panels) and COUSTpanels (wall panels), and one with COUSTpanels only. The client chose to install only wall panels with prints. And what is normally the most difficult choice of all (“which print shall we choose?”) did not prove to be an obstacle at all here: the client asked us to use the images of which there were already some posters on the wall. We reproduced these images on our canvases through sublimation printing and placed the panels neatly over the posters to cover them completely.
The largest wall panels (400 cm by 160 cm) were installed as COUSTwalls (on-site custom wall coverings) instead of COUSTpanels to facilitate transport through the building and avoid the use of an elevator to the floor. A visually and acoustically successful project, after all!
