The problem
On the outskirts of Mariakerke, surrounded by greenery, we can find the imposing, classic building in which Walter Van Steenbrugge's renowned law firm has its home. Inside, this building was magnificently restored with lots of glass and austere solutions, but also retaining many authentic classical elements. Both the meeting room and the auditorium under the roof of this building were provided with excellent acoustics by COUST acoustics.
Our solution
These two rooms were often used, but not to the delight of all. The unpleasant reverberation in the rooms apparently made them not at all pleasant to host meetings in. In the meeting room, a reverberation of 1.4 seconds was found to be present, and in the auditorium the sound continued to reverberate for as much as 2.7 seconds....
Result
To halve the reverberation time in the meeting room to a pleasant 0.7 seconds, we installed our custom acoustic wall covering (COUSTwall) in one piece, of 7.5 m² surface area. This in a warm white color to blend in nicely with the rest of the interior. In the auditorium, we had to install many more of our acoustic panels to achieve a reverberation time of 0.7 seconds. The client chose a large COUSTwall there of 4.7 x 2.8 meters in size, this time in a pure white color so that it could also function as a beamer wall. We supplemented this 13 m² area with four all-black acoustic columns (COUSTbase) on wheels to add another 10 m² of absorption material to the space. An excellent result, both visually and acoustically, and already two spaces that could now be happily occupied!
