The problem
In late 2018, the new owners of former restaurant de Zevenster (renamed “De Loteling”) in Schilde contacted us regarding the renovation of their business. Not only did they want to tackle the interior, but they also wanted to make sure that their busy establishment would look its best acoustically. We went over to do a reverb measurement, look at the premises and listen to the owners' wishes.
Our solution
A reverberation time of 0.8 seconds was found to be present in the veranda, which in principle is an acceptable and pleasant reverberation time in a private home. In a restaurant, however, many more people gather at the same time to talk and have fun. In combination, the large glass panes and the closely spaced tables therefore created a lot of noise (also read our blog about this).
The owners had already thought about possible acoustic solutions. Their wish was to cover an old-fashioned, deep recess in the ceiling with acoustic material. So we decided to cover it completely with our COUSTceiling acoustic ceiling. This way, the lighting cables could also be laid in the right place immediately. The installation of our acoustic ceiling panel provided a very tight result and a reverberation of only 0.5 seconds!
Result
The restaurant suffered from a slightly higher reverberation time of 0.9 seconds. We reduced this to 0.7 seconds. Because of the large volume of this room, this required a lot of square meters of our material. The owners wanted to keep the various wooden beams on the ceiling, so we started looking for other possible solutions. We ended up installing several COUSTwalls (custom-made wall coverings) in a black color to match the existing interior. These wall coverings were each nicely aligned with other present elements such as the windows etc. We pulled the electrical cables through our acoustic wall covering so that the wall lighting could be placed on it afterwards.
